Amigo Modern

Long Beach, CA

Amigo Modern is a furniture and product design firm working in the classic California-modern style: clean, simple, approachable.

Amigo Modern's Founder, Eric Trine, grew up in Orange County, CA and, like most kids in The Golden State, spent the majority of his time outside. Ramps, treehouses and other creations born out of curiosity intersecting with adolescent carpentry foreshadowed his future livelihood. In high school, Trine studied set design through the Orange County School of the Arts, which furthered his magnetism toward making and communicating through a built environment. Trine's studies continued with a BFA in Sculpture from Biola University in 2007.

Yet it wasn't until moving into his first apartment that his interest in furniture began. The DIYs became advanced DIYs; projects for friends turned into projects for friends of friends — and thus a career began to emerge. Trine enrolled in the experimental masters program of Applied Craft and Design offered jointly by the Pacific Northwest College of Art and the Oregon College of Art and Craft in Portland, Oregon. He graduated with his MFA in 2013 and promptly moved back to Southern California to launch his design studio.

Amigo Modern focuses on furniture and product design for the home, and small-scale designs and builds for commercial clients. The studio is based in Long Beach, CA where all projects are conceived, engineered, and prototyped in-house. All production takes place within a 30-mile radius of the studio, through a network of trusted vendors and artisans.

Trine describes his aesthetic through this imaginative question: what if Charles Eames, Buckminster Fuller, and David Hockney were surfing buddies? Wrap that in a burrito and drop it in the Southern California sun and you have Amigo Modern.
